BUT ARE THEY BEAUTIFUL ?
Many spiders are amazingly attractive, but generally they are small and reclusive creatures, so we tend
to overlook their gorgeous colors, intriguing shapes, and incredible habits. Most of the species
presented on these pages were selected for their unique beauty, but some were chosen to
show features such as mimicry, camouflage, feeding habits, courtship, etc. Here's
hoping that you, like I, find all of them a surprising feast for the eyes.

for many years, shifting whimsically from one obsession to
another. Spiders, though, became a long-lasting fascination when I met with so many unfamiliar beauties while living in Mexico in the 1960s. However, what you see here now only scratches the surface; thousands more species await almost everywhere. So, hopefully, this site will improve as I travel
in the near future. Spiders are tough creatures -- they will
surely be surviving on earth long after we humans are gone.
