The female below is guarding her egg sac in a dry
sand-pine scrub area of central Florida.
Argiope florida
This species is known as the Florida or Silver-backed Argiope. It ranges in drier parts of the
southeastern USA. Its webs are sometimes seen suspended on barbed-wire fences.
It is superficially similar to the western U. S. form of the Silver Argiope.
