This little jumping spider is one of several in the USA that resemble small beetles, but it does not seem to mimic
a specific beetle. Perhaps its ancient ancestors evolved to imitate a toxic-but-now-extinct species. To
enhance its beetle mimicry, it often walks on six legs, holding the front pair against its head.
